“Psychic Dreams” is the final installment of the “Glimmer Lake” series and the one I’ve been waiting for.As strong a threesome as Robin, Val and Monica are, Monica Velasquez is by far the strongest one of the bunch. Her and her husband Gil survived a high school pregnancy and young marriage that beat all the odds by being successful, loving and strong. The one thing that they didn’t see coming was the unexpected death of Gilbert at such a young age. Monica didn’t break. She couldn’t. She had four children to raise and bills to pay. With her children now grown she spends her time working tirelessly at Russell House. She loves her job and she’s good at it. Her life has changed and even though she still mourns the loss of her husband she has never allowed herself to dwell in despair. She is content with her life, though her “visions” of fire have afforded her little sleep. Add in the fact that Monica’s story opens with a hot and steamy “vision” with an unknown man and she is a little scattered. (Kudos for that opening paragraph, Ms. Hunter! It’s always been said that the first sentence and paragraph should grab the reader’s attention. You definitely grabbed it!)The car accident that had Robin, Val and Monica in the bottom of Glimmer Lake with a skeleton in the back seat and ghostly visages that saved them from drowning left all of them with a new gift, and sometimes that same gift was a curse. But when old hunting cabins start burning and the new Fire Inspector, Gabriel Peralta, is Monica’s visionary lover, all bets are off. Robin, Val and Monica do what they do best, they band together to sift through the clues to find an answer before quaint little Glimmer Lake is burned to the ground.I loved that the nucleus of the three women now include Robin’s husband, Mark and Val’s sweet sheriff, Sully. Yay! I love the realness of the characters in this series. Some are in their mid-forties and some are closer to fifty, with all of their real- life experiences and fears. Troubled marriages, dead-beat dads, small town gossip, death and hormonal teenagers. You know, life. It’s not always pretty, but sometimes it’s downright beautiful.Yes, this story was about the three women and their families. Yes, there was a mystery to solve. Yes, there was a burgeoning romance. Yes, there was some “growing pains.” But this was ALL Monica’s story. And it was nice to see that Ms. Hunter saved the best for last! Monica is who I want to be when I grow up.Hats off to PWF (Paranormal Women’s Fiction) for having the… gumption? To write about real life. About older women and older men. About the grit and silk of adulting. I enjoy a purely entertaining book about young adults, twenty-somethings, billionaires and rock stars. I have some favorite writers who write perfect examples of the aforementioned. But sometimes, I want a little meat on the bone. A little sausage with my gravy. This genre has filled that role so well.It has become repetitive, but Elizabeth Hunter is just that good. We take her for granted. We expect nothing short of brilliance. She never lets us down. I am always honored to receive an early copy of her books, and this one was no exception. I found myself at the end just too quickly. In other words, I was so immersed in the story I didn't realize I was near the end until the conclusion of the mystery. It was so well written, the words just flowed easily across the page and was a delight to read.In this last book of the Glimmer Lake series of besties, we are with Monica. She is such an awesome woman, having raised four amazing children, losing her husband too soon , and now running a prospering business. On top of that, now having to deal with visions, which is the basis of this final book.Glimmer Lake has an arsonist, of which Monica is having disturbing visions about. She also has a very unexpected vision, one that will make her gasp, and is vaguely related to the fire visions. This is where the besties start their investigations to unravel the mystery.It's pretty fast paced, has great dialogue and definitely keeps your interest. The three girls, Mark and Sully are present, along with Jake (Monica's first born), Kara (Monica's hotel manager), and the new fire chief, Gabe. These three new characters are, as usual, very well thought out. The mystery will keep you intrigued, and I really liked the inclusion of the ghosts again.Overall, this was a great final book in this series, and I believe we get a brief intro to one of the characters in the new series Moonstone Cove. We are always gifted with amazing writing, when Elizabeth Hunter releases a new book for her readers to devour.
